2017 GALA DAY

~ RTBC INDOOR GALA DAY ~ 8th April 2017 ~

*
The day concluded satisfactorily with the Gala Shield Trophy collecting its third winning team name
which will be engraved on it in due course.

The present format of the Gala Day, in requiring the right numbers to make up the right even number of teams, does have its potential administration problems for sure. However, getting 72 RTBC players, both ladies and gents all of mixed experience and standard, along to play bowls together on the same day does make it a special and significant event for the Club. From comments made to us during and after the matches it appears that most thoroughly enjoyed their day.

Thanks to the kitchen staff for providing us with an excellent buffet lunch this year, good quality and good quantity. Thanks to everyone who generously donated raffle prizes. These, along with the ones supplied by the Club enabled a sizeable pool of prizes. Thanks to Rita for expertly managing the tickets, draw & prizes etc. for us.
Thanks to Barry Mee for sorting the prize envelopes whilst the organisers continued to thrash away on the rink!!

Even without winning any of the 12 playing prizes,we believe and hope that everyone thinks that their £10 entry fee was very good value for what they received during the day. There seemed to be a good relaxed atmosphere around the Club throughout. The Gala Day is supposed to be a nice social event, with the bowls played competitively..but not over-competitively. As far as we saw, that's how it was.

There were some very good close contests this year. It may well be though that the format of the Gala would benefit from certain changes to the teams format next time to make it even better. Next year's organisers will no doubt review things accordingly. Also posting the event earlier is necessary in future.

Thanks to everyone involved this year in whatever ways, and for supporting the event so well.

2017 SINGLES LEAGUE

~ SINGLES INDOOR WINTER LEAGUE 2016 - 17 ~

*
This inaugural tournament began on December 13th 2016 and ran weekly until completed on March 29th 2017.
Over 14 Rounds (with 1 Bye Round each) the group of 15 players competed for prizes and played each other once each week on 8.30pm Tuesday & Wednesday rink slots. The number of wins + points difference decided the placings.
Thanks to all involved for their excellent commitment to the objectives and rules of the tournament. Matches were played in good spirit by the players ,win or lose, and with intensity and desire to improve their bowling skills both in Singles format and generally. Improvement in play was very clear to see as the rounds progressed and comments at the end indicated that most felt that they had benefited in their own individual ways from the experience of taking part in some regular Singles bowls. This was the prime objective of the venture from the start. In addition the excellent regular social banter that took place at the bar afterwards was enjoyed by all (most of the time anyway!!).

The final top 6 prize placings were as follows:-

1st - Kyle Buckley 2nd - Malcolm Keeling 3rd - Ray Moore
4th - Robina Richards 5th - Brandon Taylor 6th - Eric Miskowicz

Thanks to John Greaves for his input in the setting up of this event, and for his knowledge and support throughout it.

This most popular of indoor club tournaments was fully subscribed - and with reserves - a mere 48 hrs after the notice was posted on the board. Starting back on October 15th 2016 we had 48 players in 12 teams playing 9 Saturday afternoon triples matches until the final day's full match with all players + buffet on April 22nd.

Due to the popularity of this tournament, and the fact that so many who wished to play missed out, some minor changes are being considered to allow the field to be increased and play additional Saturdays with the competition starting in early October and the entry list being posted at the start of September.
MANY, MANY THANKS TO PAUL MUNDAY (& HIS HELPERS) FOR HIS TIRELESS EFFORTS ORGANISING AND MANAGING THE COMPETITION, AND OF COURSE DOING THE TEA/BISCUITS
THANK YOU SIR PAUL !!
